Back in August 2013 I was approached by the Church of Ireland The Clogher Diocesan to work on and produce a completely new design for their monthly magazine. At that time their existing magazine was A5 in format and black and white. It had a loyal audience, who I was keen not to alienate by creating something that wouldn’t have been to their liking. I had to tread carefully.
I had an idea of what the magazine should be, it should be a vehicle where parishes could connect with their parishioners and with one another, through articles and through images. Images say a thousand words and I think that’s why this new design proved so popular.
I organised the magazine into various sections, A Note From The Bishop, Parish Notes, Mothers' Union, Church of Ireland News, Missionary and Charitable News, Community News and many other sections. Each section was identifiable with a unique and cheerful colour.
It proved very popular, and the design was recognised by the ‘Church of Ireland Communications Competition’ within the ‘Diocesan Magazines’ category coming runner up on a number of occasions. I designed the layout for this magazine in September 2013 and in total designed artwork for forty six issues of the publication.
